Youth artists have a number of opportunities to play folk music at the 2024 Illawarra Folk Festival, but be early to apply!

Get a Gig – Play at the Youth Traditions Concert – 9am Saturday 20 January

Youth artists (U26) will be able to apply until the 10 December 2023 for a chance to play in the Youth Traditions concert from 9am on Saturday 20 January. Youth performers will receive a free Day Pass. Youth performers under 18 need to be accompanied by a parent. One free parent pass will also be issued.

Folk School

Join us at our amazing 1 day Folk School to held 19 January 2024 with over 40 workshops planned with visiting folk musicians.

Presented by the Illawarra Folk Club Inc, Folk School aims to increase awareness of folk music traditions and provide opportunities for musicians of all ages to build on their skills.

Three concurrent sessions are held every hour between 9am and 5pm with renowned tutors including many international artists.

The folk school youth traditions showcase provides opportunities for young musicians to collaborate and perform at the festival.

Folk school is held at the Northern Illawarra Uniting Church, the beautiful sandstone church opposite the festival grounds on the corner of Point St & Princes Hwy, Bulli.

Win a Folk School Scholarship

The Illawarra Folk Club is proud to offer twenty youth traditions scholarships to the 19th Folk School, to be held 9am-5pm on the 19th January, 2023.

Folk school provides opportunities to gain skills, try something new and collaborate with other young musicians as part of the youth traditions showcase held at 9am Saturday 20th January at the Illawarra Folk Festival.

To apply state what instruments you play, what performing experience you have, your age and contact details and why you want to go to folk school.
